There are various options to consider for charts. I work for Fugawi.com which re-sells Navionics products, so I hope my tips will be of value.

If you need a SD or CF card to plug into a chart plotter, then here are a couple suggestions: (a) Navionics Fish 'N Chip 'G' series for the Great Lakes which is nicely detailed for water depth contours, bottom structure, etc. Covers both the USA and Canadian sides of the lakes. (b) For good navigation charts, there are cards for the Canadian side and the US side of the Great Lakes; the Navionics 2XG chart collection has the Canadian half of Lake Erie & Lake Ontario, and all of Lake St. Jhapatlela film rington mp3 songs. If you want to view those cards on a Windows computer, plus get thousands of inland US lake charts then you may wish to get Navionics NavPlanner 2: NavPlanner 2 lets you view the Navionics cards you own plus see a tremendous number of USA lake charts (there are more than 70 Ohio lakes in the collection) installed with the software. If you are only interested in seeing charts on a computer (not plugging a chart card into a chart plotter) then you could use Fugawi Marine ENC (for Windows) or MacENC (for Mac OS X) plus downloadable versions of Navionics charts as shown on the list at: -- Andre at Fugawi. Navionics website blows they really need to update it and make it more user friendly.

I'm at a loss as to what chip to buy. What are you guys running.

I'm not buying an insight unit because it doesn't show the international boundries. If possible I would like a chip that shows St Clair All of Erie and Lake Ontario, and if I can get greedy some inland lakes in Ohio. If you want Canadian waters buy the Navionics Fish N' Chip Great Lakes chart: If you don't need Canadian waters, then the Navionics Premium East HotMaps will work and give you the inland lakes as well.
