: Tue 19th Jul 2011: 7 years ago I recently downloaded the demo of FL Studio 10. I thought it took the surface simplicity that I loved so much and buried beneath a bunch of complications and hassles to set up individual patterns and tracks in a way that limits a lot of free thinking during the arrangements of your patterns. That or it takes a ridiculous amount of time to set that free thinking up, either way, its a big pain. One really cool thing though, is the new vst plugin 'pitcher' which looks more or less like a very simplified autotune, however, what's really cool is that in the tutorial, it tells you exactly how to set it up through midi signal to harmonize the tuned notes to a single wave, manipulating that wave to the notes on the keyboard, but still putting through the autotuned sound, basically giving you two outputs, the processed original, and then the further processed midi input notes. In layman's terms, it can make two voices out of one and pitch correct the original at the same time. My question is this: Can this be done with real (Antares) Autotune?

And if not, does Image-Line have a unique tuning software that's worth a serious look? : Tue 19th Jul 2011: 7 years ago I don't know about Antares autotune much, but I can safely say that Pitcher and Newtone are two very good vsts. I got them when they first came out. Pitcher is a very good automatic autotuner/midi harmonizer. It does however get a little confused when you put a delay on top of the vocals, and then add autotune,and in addition to that, the harmonizer can function a little strangely.

Its not the most accurate thing ever, and thus can make some very unnatural sounding vocals (with them bieng either too high or too low) Thankfully, where pitcher fails, newtone succeeds. Newtone allows you to manually adjust each individual note.

From what I've used Newtone and Pitcher for, they are both excellent plugins, however I lack confidence in my voice and, more importantly, lyrics, and so I rarely ever record them. However they are great fun to mess about with, even if you don't use them in the final product, and they can be used on other peoples acapellas too. I also hated FL10 when I first downloaded it due to the lack of pattern blocks, but there is a way to fix this. Go into 'options', 'general settings' then click on 'enable legacy pattern blocks' Its a shame that they are making them obsolete, because if I have to re-install FL in the future, and the only version they have doesn't have the pattern blocks, I'll have to consider getting a new DAW, cause I can't work without them. I got Melodyne's basic package as a download for 40 euro on ebay. It's normally about 350 for the full package.

It is the business!!! Unlike other packages it does not bend a long wave back towards a pitch, but alters note by note more like midi. It's barely noticable until you go about an octave out. Perfect not just for pulling back into pitch by minute amounts, but also for rethinking melodies, adding harmonies and even re-structuring. No Cher effect with this, you have to A/B to even hear it working.

It also fixes timing problems. Works well with instruments, too, e.g.
