Our organization is looking for “continuous learning” opportunities, in any format/media, in the following areas. The key aspect is we’re looking for training, within the federal government, that incurs no cost!, that other Depts/Agencies may have and are willing to share! The areas are: Financial Management, Oral Communication, Conflict Management, Human Capital Management, Political Savvy, Developing others, Performance Management. The characteristics of the training should be: Leadership development focus; Short in duration – 1 hour, half day, 1 day, 1 day per Quarter; Impactful – motivational and inspirational – sparks interest and ideas; Practical – insight that can be used to guide career planning and decision-making – subject matter that is useful yet interesting; Collaborative approach – reach out cross federal government Depts/Agencies.

Thank you very much, any insight is much appreciated, or, if you know of someone who could help, that would be great! Best Practice Sharing -- 2 questions. At present, our agency does not try to organize the various required annual trainings (around security, EEO etc.). Is there an agency that has a best practice on how such trainings get scheduled, reinforced, and measured to both maximize impact and minimize employee time completing these requirements? We are soon going to develop training in support of the Plain Writing Act of 2010. Is there an agency that already has a good training program (or e-learning) established for this?

It would be great to share best practices on these items. Richard: you can find a list of agencies who have Plain Writing courses on the 'Sharing Resources and Collaborating Across Agencies' wiki page. Also, you can download SSA's course from that page.

I don't have comment about LMS but am hoping if someone could share with me the major roles Training Officers have and the requirement of. Reason I ask, I have been trying to convey the need with fellow employees to ensure training requests are routed to the Training Officer and approval has been received prior to attending the training. I believe if I am provided this information, it will put to rest this challenge, their need to comply. FYI, For the most part, I have been hearing, 'Why does training need to be approved by the Training Office when my supervisor has already approved it, and the funds have been allotted to us for such.' I have advised, PRs serve as a contract and the Training Officer serves as the Contracting Officer.

I think you will find that many agencies are sing the SF-182 function in their LMS. I head the Government Plateau Users Group Subgroup on SF-182. Since so many agencies use the Plateau LMS we have been working together to improve the SF-182 functionality available in the product. Book

If you woudl like to talk more about what we have been doing let me know. Although you don't have the Plateau Learning module I believe EPA licenses the Plateau performance management module and might be able to build off of it.
